OKI

Last weekend, we went on a little mini family beach trip to Oak Island.  And stayed for free in a precious cottage, thanks to Jason's sister being very good friends with a real, live beach house owner.

(Note:  I actually forgot my camera so all these photos were taken with the iPhone and are therefore of substandard quality.)

We were nearing our destination round about the dinner hour so we popped into Southport and found a restaurant on the harbor.  Unfortunately, a tsunami hit at about the same time and we found ourselves sprinting from the car for cover.  We had been watching the insane lightning this storm was producing for the last third of our drive.  Finally though, a clearing on the horizon...

But the real sunshine came out once we arrived at the cottage.  It was about 2 hours past his bedtime and he was psyched to be up late on a school night.

Excuse my post-beach wet hair and just look at the very nom-able bebeh.

Sunday, Jason and I decided to drive out to see the lighthouse.  It's not one of the most traditionally picturesque of NC's lighthouses (partly because it was built fairly recently - in 1958) but it's charming in its own way.  It was definitely built with function over form in mind, which is why it's made of three shades paint mixed with concrete so it never has to be painted, like most lighthouses.

Sunday afternoon, I got to be in charge of Liam while everyone else cleaned up the cottage and packed.  We attempted a photo shoot together.

 {Me likey...uh...hmmm...hey, is that a bird?}

We decided to stop into Wilmington on the way back home.  We hadn't been here in ages, probably since about a year before we moved to London.  It's such a cute little town.  We're going back this weekend so I'll have plenty more photos with a proper camera.

My 4th of July holiday starts tomorrow after work when we hit the road.  Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th!  See you guys next week.
